Four Outdoor Destinations to Visit this Summer in Chickasaw Country

Chickasaw Country, Okla. - Make sure your staycation happens this year by traveling locally and exploring the great outdoors. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Americans spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. Alter the ordinary by exploring Chickasaw Country, the getaway in your backyard.

Four outdoor locations are highlighted below. However, this is only a peek into the natural beauty and excitement found within the entire region.
Blue River, Tishomingo, Okla.
Enjoy trout fishing, swimming, kayaking and camping in the tranquil outdoors at Blue River in Tishomingo. Venture into the town of Tishomingo for the famous Blue River Ribs or a micro-winery experience at Old Silo Winery.
Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Sulphur, Okla.
As one of three Oklahoma parks affiliated with the National Park Service, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area is an outdoor oasis of water and wildlife. Boating, fishing and camping are offered year-round, as well as over 30 miles of hiking trails. While in Sulphur, visit the world-class Chickasaw Cultural Center, participate in a Stomp Dance and learn about First American culture.
Lake Texoma State Park, Kingston, Okla.
Lake Texoma offers plenty of family-friendly activities like boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. Are you looking for extreme water adventure? Consider Water Wings of Texoma to fly up to 30 feet in the air and experience the feeling of zero gravity.
Turner Falls Park, Davis, Okla.
Explore Turner Falls Park in the heart of the Arbuckle Mountains. There you’ll find natural swimming pools, caves and a 77-foot waterfall. Take it all in from above in the 777 Zip, a zipline that lets you see 717 feet in the air.
