Tucked along U.S. Highway 77 near Turner Falls and just off I-35 in Davis, Oklahoma, Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies is an unassuming little shop that has become one of those places travelers plan their trips around. It’s part roadside stop, part bakery and completely an Oklahoma experience.

Made fresh daily, Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies come in an almost dizzying variety of sweet and savory flavors. Classic fruit fillings like apple, peach, blackberry and apricot share the menu with creamy favorites such as chocolate and coconut. Craving something savory? Try a breakfast pie filled with bacon, egg and cheese, a pepperoni pizza pie or one of the shop’s other hearty creations. Many flavors are also available in sugar-free varieties.

The pies are made using a family recipe that dates back more than a century. The story begins with Maude Pletcher, who perfected her recipe near Springer, Oklahoma, in the late 1800s. Her grandson, Jerry Pletcher, continues to carry that tradition forward, helping turn a family recipe into a destination known far beyond the Arbuckle Mountains. Today, the Davis location is the flagship for a growing collection of Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies locations.

But part of the fun is simply being there.
