The park was part of the Butterfield Stage Route and later, used as a Confederate commissary depot during the Civil War.
Looking around the park you will see signs and information about the various events and reasons of importance for Boggy Depot throughout the early years of American history.
Choctaw Chief Allen Wright is buried in the cemetery at Boggy Depot; he gave Oklahoma its name which means "Red People" in the Choctaw language.
