Check Out the Cowboy Opry and Music Store!
Nestled in downtown Comanche, the Cowboy Opry and Music Store is a local guitar store and entertainment venue. The front of the store features an extensive selection of guitars, fiddles and banjos. The back portion of the building is a large gathering place known as the Cowboy Opry. The Cowboy Opry is charmingly accented with old western décor and replicas of country music's finest like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and Hank Williams. The space is available for private events like birthday parties, wedding receptions, anniversaries and family reunions.
However, the Cowboy Opry is best known for its weekly community gatherings hosted by owner, Allen Wooten. Mr. Wooten has always had a passion for music and views the Cowboy Opry as a way of sharing his passion with all in the community while at the same time providing them with good food and great entertainment. For over ten years and counting, this community-wide dinner is held every Thursday night with the meal kicking off at 5:30 p.m., followed by musical entertainment at 6:30 p.m. The weekly dinner ranges from food provided by local diners to Mr. Wooten cooking up some of his specialty dishes like fried chicken or chili and cornbread. The entertainment is more an open-mic concept in which all attending musicians, both aspiring and established, gather on stage to play. The dinner and entertainment is always free; although, donations are greatly appreciated. This weekly event is welcome to all, both locals and travelers alike. So, head over to Comanche for a Thursday out-on-the-town and enjoy some great guitar shopping and family-friendly entertainment at the Cowboy Opry & Music Store!
