New Art Exhibits to Debut at Chickasaw Country Tourism Centers November 1
For Immediate Release
November 1, 2022
Chickasaw Country, OK—Chickasaw Country, located in south-central Oklahoma and known for its rich First American heritage, will unveil two new art exhibits at the Chickasaw Visitor Center in Sulphur featuring the works of Madelyn Goodnight, and at the nearby Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center off Interstate 35 in Davis featuring the photography of Cody Warren. Both artists are Chickasaw Nation citizens.
Warren, who hails from Eugene, Oregon, became interested in photography as a child using disposable cameras and smartphones to capture his subjects. As an undergraduate at the University of Oregon, Warren studied journalism and honed his photography skills by learning how to properly use a camera to create contrast on film. While inspired by nature and the changing landscapes that the Pacific Northwest is known for, Warren also enjoys photographing people and events. His work will be on display at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center in Davis.
Madelyn Goodnight has illustrated several children’s books with themes that often reflect her First American roots, including “Powwow Day,” “Look, Grandma! Ni, Elisi!” and “The Pear Tree.” She has also illustrated scenes from her favorite stories, including “Thumbelina” and “Little Women.” Her work reflects her love of childhood and innocence, which she draws on for inspiration in her art. Using a breadth of mediums and outlets, she has a diverse way of expressing her ideas and aesthetics. Raised in Oklahoma, Goodnight holds a BFA degree in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work will be on display at the Chickasaw Visitor Center in Sulphur.
“We’re extremely pleased to showcase two Chickasaw artists for our upcoming exhibits,” said Paige Williams Shepherd, director of tourism for the Chickasaw Nation. “Both are extremely talented, and we invite visitors to stop by both exhibits to see firsthand Cody and Madelyn’s work as well as learn more about our region’s history, culture and the many other artists who have ties to our community.”
Both exhibits will run November 1 through February 28, 2023, at the Chickasaw Visitor Center in Sulphur featuring the works of Madelyn Goodnight and the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center in Davis showcasing the photography of Cody Warren. For more information, visit www.chickasawcountry.com.
