Chickasaw Country Kicks Off Fall with an Array of Cultural and Seasonal Events

Chickasaw Country is Rich with First American Culture as well as Family-Friendly Activities

Chickasaw Country, Okla. - Chickasaw Country, located about halfway between Dallas and Oklahoma City, celebrates autumn with a number of fun and enriching events. Discover the rich First American culture, find the perfect pumpkin at several local farms or take a candlelight ghost tour for a more spirited experience. 

First American Culture

  • October 1st  – Chickasaw Annual Festival in Tishomingo

The Chickasaw Nation's Annual Festival celebrates the tenacious spirit of the Chickasaw people. This year’s gathering, will feature a variety of activities and demonstrations, the Southeastern Art Show and Market, a parade, live entertainment, storytelling and more. 

  • October 14th - 15th – Chickasaw National Recreation Area Candlelight Tour in Sulphur 

More than a thousand candle luminaries will light the trails along Flower Park spotlighting moments in time that capture the park’s history. Staff and volunteers will retrace the park’s history presenting scenes from its earliest days. 

Family- Friendly Events 

  • Every Saturday in October  – Happy Day Farms Pumpkin Patch in Terral 

Happy Day Farms Pumpkin Patch offers seasonal entertainment for the whole family with plump pumpkins to take home, concessions, bounce house, jumping pillow, pony rides, picnic area, petting zoo, hayrides and more. 

  • October 29th – The Clubhouse Boo-tacular in Ardmore 

Bring the entire family for a day of carnival games, prize opportunities, character photo ops, costume contests, face painting, deals of the day, cake walk and fair food. Guests are encouraged to dress in costumes. 

Haunted Happenings 

  • October 25th-29th –  Fort Washita Ghost Tours in Durant

Set at Fort Washita, a military post built during WWII, this swathe of land remains an historic and significant site for First Americans as it was a place of peace for the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations. During the Civil War, the Confederate Army occupied the land destroying it almost entirely as the war came to an end. For four nights, guests can embark on a walking candlelight ghost tour for a chance encounter with spirits that are said to haunt this land. 

  • September 30th - October 29th  –  Newcastle Nightmare Haunted Attraction in Newcastle 

Lurking behind the backwoods and down an old country road are two fatal attractions, an abandoned summer camp and a haunted graveyard, where twists and turns reveal the unexpected.

Just for Fun

  • September 24th - 25th –  National Alpaca Farm Day at Magnolia Blossom Ranch in Newcastle 

September 24th is National Alpaca Farm Day. Celebrate by visiting Magnolia Blossom Ranch to interact with alpacas while learning about how to breed, raise and care for these animals. Additional activities include photo opportunities, alpaca feeding, live demonstrations and farm tours. 

  • October 1st – Annual Food Truck Championships in downtown Chickasha 

Food truck vendors from around the state go fork-to-fork at the Oklahoma Food Truck Championship in downtown Chickasha. Winning categories include 1st through 3rd place, Most Creative and Fan Favorite. Visitors can enjoy sampling an array of Oklahoma staples as 35 trucks compete for the grand prize. Enjoy live entertainment as well as the Rock Island Ride – a series of bike routes that meander through the region. Food trucks will be open for both lunch and dinner.
