Learn about the Chisholm Trail and the life of a cowboy in the Campfire Theater. Experience a cattle stampede from the comfort of your chair in the T.H. McCasland, Jr. Experience Theater. Travertine Nature Center

Travertine Nature Center

Make the Travertine Nature Center your first stop at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Not only can you grab brochures and maps of the Recreation Area, but you learn about the history of the park and the nature you will find there. Browse displays of the animals common in the area and learn why there is a bison herd on the park. And the best part is this is all in an enclosed building to keep you out of the elements.

*Too cold for a hike or swim? The Chickasaw National Recreation Area is a beautiful place for a warm, cozy drive in your car. Grab a warm drink and head out to explore the Arbuckle Mountain area.

Chickasaw Council House Museum

The Chickasaw Council House Museum, located on the Capitol Square in Tishomingo, holds one of the largest collections of Chickasaw art, artifacts and archive materials. In the center of the room when you walk through the front door, you will find the first Chickasaw Council House built in Indian Territory, surrounded by artifacts and displays highlighting traditional foods, music, dance and artwork. As you continue through the museum, learn about a few Chickasaw citizens and how they contributed to the tribe and our world.

*Find pottery, jewelry, beadwork, souvenirs, books, music and much more in the museum gift shop.
